In Gjirokastra is celebrated the symbolic blessing of the waters that commemorates according to the Orthodox calendar the baptism of Christ in the waters of the Jordan River.
The symbolism of the holiday is related to the enlightenment and purification of the soul from sins, said during his speech Father Joan from the church of the Goddess in Gjirokastra.
Believers again this year wished for more security and health and the blessing of all families.
Due to the low temperatures and difficult situation associated with Covid 19 this year the throwing of the cross into the waters of the Drino River was avoided and the ceremony was limited to the mass and rite of blessed water in the cathedral.
