Blinken: Kosovo is a steadfast partner of the United States

During the meeting in Washington with President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti, Blinken said that the two countries have a long history, as he thanked Kosovo for hosting Afghan refugees and for supporting Ukraine after the Russian aggression.

“Kosovo is a staunch partner of the United States, and I think as you all know, there is a long and strong history between us, especially with President Biden, who sends you his warm greetings. I want to thank you again for the generous reception of Afghans at risk, the strong support we have seen since day one for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression, the work you are doing at the Democracy Summit, including organizing the women’s summit, peace and security – and, Madam President, I especially appreciate your leadership in this regard. Tomorrow you will sign an agreement with the Millennium Challenge Corporation – really important, especially when it comes to supporting your efforts to build renewable energy. So there’s a lot to talk about as we work on all these issues, as well as, of course, essential regional security issues that I know we’ll have a chance to discuss,” Blinken emphasized.

Meanwhile, President Vjosa Osmani declared that Kosovo’s independence is an irreversible reality and that they will work with the USA and other democratic countries so that the international position of our country is strengthened even further by taking its deserved place in the Euro-Atlantic community.

Osmani also mentioned Russia’s efforts to destabilize the Western Balkans.

“As you know, Secretary, Putin will continue to try to destabilize Europe through the Western Balkans as well. We will continue to need the unwavering support of the United States, as well as our European allies, to ensure that the plans of Russia and its proxies in the region are stopped. For this reason, we look forward to working with you, with the entire Biden administration, to ensure that as the front lines in the defense of democracy, we are successful in protecting our shared values, which are the foundations of our country… Independent, sovereign, free Kosovo is an irreversible reality that you have helped create. We will work side by side every day together with the United States, as well as other democratic countries around the world, to make sure that this reality is strengthened, to make sure that the international position of the Republic of Kosovo is strengthened, and to move forward towards our deserved place in the Euro-Atlantic community”, emphasized Osmani.

“In the same way that you stood by us at that time two decades ago, you are standing with Ukraine today. So I want to assure you on behalf of Kosovo that the people of Kosovo also stand by Ukraine, as we have shown by approving sanctions immediately, on the same day that the United States and the European Union have done so. And, of course, we repeat our call to all the countries in the region to do this”, emphasized Osmani.
