“This is a war crime, what is happening in Mariupol is a massive war crime. This city is about to be utterly destroyed; “People are dying there, they are killing everyone.”
The chief diplomat of the European Union, Joseph Borrel, made it very clear how the world sees what is happening in the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol, constantly bombarded by Russian forces. For the EU foreign policy chief, this is pure war crime. Mariupol has been under siege for weeks and the condition of its inhabitants is desperate. The foreign ministers of the bloc’s 27 member states gathered to discuss the Ukraine war. Europe should by no means give the impression that it is getting tired of this whole situation, or that it is getting tired of sanctioning Russia, said Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis.
“We should not sit down and rest. We will talk about sanctions, it is “inevitable” talk about the energy sector. We should definitely discuss oil, because it provides the most revenue to Russia’s budget.“.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock echoed Borrell’s comments.
“In the end, it will be up to the courts to decide, but these are clearly war crimes, and we as the EU, and the entire world community, must isolate this regime.“.
The ministers will discuss further support for Ukraine and whether or not new sanctions will be imposed on the Russian gas and oil sectors, in addition to other economic sanctions already taken.
