Prices are rising abusively severely hurting citizens and farmers.
The alarm was raised by former Deputy Prime Minister Erion Brace from the rostrum of parliament, where he called for emergency intervention by the authorities to stop abuses that, according to him, do not come only as a result of international conjunctures, which in November caused inflation to exceed the central bank.
“Beyond the inflation that has exceeded the target of 3%, of course in the market there is a terrible abuse of prices at the expense of the citizens and at the expense of these people that we from the Assembly are generously returning after their investment. The abuse that is happening today with prices, especially with the prices of agricultural and livestock products has an effect because it falls on the consumer and has closed the market and is leaving stock of products of our farmers. It is harming citizens, pensioners and the most vulnerable. Taxes need to be collected and abuses hit the markets. Start with the agri-food market of Tirana, a pure monopoly. ”
Socialist MP Brace has asked for more support for agriculture because according to him with the entry into force of the strongly contested fiscal package, farmers will face high prices of agricultural inputs.
“Agriculture needs even more public money, we have to decide that agriculture should receive more funds. It is now and will be from January onwards under the aggression of agricultural input prices. Each of the agricultural inputs is going from 100 lek and more per kg. ”
Starting next year, VAT on farmers’ compensation from the current 6% will be zeroed, while agricultural inputs for farmers will be taxed at 10%.
