A Conservative MP in Britain has been arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual assault, the local daily TheSun revealed today.
In the latest domestic politics sex scandal, the MP expected to be appointed soon was taken into custody by authorities.
Scotland Yard Central Police said: “A man has been arrested for sexual assault, rape, abuse of power and misconduct against a public official.”
In an update of information they added today that the deputy has been released on bail until mid-June pending the results of the investigation.
Police said the suspected sexual assaults took place between 2002 and 2009 in London.
Following the initial reporting of crimes in 2020, police conducted a two-year investigation and the MP was suspended by the party.
The scandal follows a series of similar cases in recent months. Conservative MP Imran Ahmad Khan resigned last month after being convicted of sexually harassing a minor. Similar allegations were made against his conservative colleague David Warburton who was suspended and several cases under investigation.
