British Airways has announced it will cut a further 10,300 short-haul flights by the end of October.
The airline, one of the hardest hit by staff shortages following the pandemic, made the announcement just a day after increasing flight cancellations.
British Airways revealed the latest cuts less than 24 hours before unions representing 700 of its control and service staff at Heathrow – almost half of its customer-facing team there – revealed strike dates in a dispute over the payment.
The departures are widely expected to coincide with the start of the summer holidays.
The company said it apologized to passengers and was looking into offering rebooking options for new flights with another airline or a full ticket refund.
Under European air passenger rights rules, affected passengers can insist on flying on the same day, even if it means British Airways has to pay for a seat on a rival airline.
