As Ukraine is surrounded by panic of possible Russian occupation and amplified media alarm, it is recently learned that its network of underground emergency shelters is locked, even one of them had turned into a strip club.
Authorities in the capital Kiev have published a map of thousands of shelters scattered across the country where millions of people can be protected in the event of war.
But many bunkers at the addresses checked yesterday were with steel doors locked, writes the British daily The Sun.
One of the addresses in the city center had been turned into a “Gentlemen’s Club” where a short woman welcomed clients suggesting that they “visit the strippers” inside the “vice” club.
When asked about the issue of emergency accommodation, the manager of the ‘red light’ club joked that “you can be accommodated with the girls, if you pay 100 euros for the entrance”.
The manager said: “I do not know if it is bombing shelter or not, but you are welcome to meet the girls, after you pay initially.”
The digital map of the shelters was published by the mayor of Kyev, who is currently the former boxing champion Vitali Klitschko.
In one of the published addresses of the bombing shelters, a woman told reporters: “I have no idea where the shelter is. “If we are bombed, I only hope for the best.”
In another location the steel door of the shelter was locked with a phone number that did not answer when attempted by reporters.
A resident of another apartment building listed as an emergency shelter said: “This is the first time I have heard that there is a bomb shelter in the basement.”
“I do not know how to get there, the door is always locked.”
Boxing mayor Klitschko advised citizens: “‘In case of possible bombing, the capital’s residents can be housed in buildings used in peacetime for various purposes.”
“But in case of emergency, the shelters will be used to protect citizens.”
The development comes as elderly men and women mobilize in Ukraine to “fight” Putin’s army, training with wooden rifles.
