In his traditional Christmas message, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier warned today against disruption in society, and acts of aggression.
The president refers to popular resistance to coronavirus pandemic policies, vaccinations and movement restrictions.
“We are a nation. “We must be able to look each other in the eye even after the pandemic,” he said without giving many explanations.
In other comments, Steinmeier thanked what he called “the silent majority of the country that has been behaving with care and responsibility for months.”
“They understand that we are dependent on each other. “Of course there are debates, there are insecurities and fears, but it is important that they are expressed”, said further the president.
“We feel that after two years of disappointment, irritation and polarization, aggression has unfortunately started.”
“In a democracy we may not always agree, but we must know that we are a nation and we must be able to look each other in the eye,” Steinmeier concluded.
