The scheme of the World Health Organization, COVAX, through which the coronavirus vaccines are expected to be distributed in poor countries, has announced that Kosovo can be supplied with this vaccine until May.
According to Faik Hoti, spokesman for the Ministry of Health in Kosovo, in the latest update of this scheme, for the first round of vaccine distribution, the time period for the distribution of vaccines in Kosovo is from February to May this year. In the first shipment through COVAX, Kosovo will receive 100,800 doses of vaccine produced by the company AstraZeneca.
The incumbent Prime Minister, Avdullah Hoti, and the incumbent Minister of Health, Armend Zemaj, have repeatedly said that the vaccine will arrive in Kosovo in February, but this has not yet happened. The Ministry of Health in Kosovo, in early January, had announced that it had received confirmation from the American company, Pfizer, for the provision of 535,000 vaccines against coronavirus.
However, officials of this company have said that they are still in discussions with the incumbent Government of Kosovo for the supply of vaccines. Vaccination through COVAX is currently started by African countries.
