Years ago, the “Peace Bell” installation, located in front of the Pyramid, became an attraction for Tirana and a reminder of the bitter past of the ’97 riots. But, it will return to its place, after the completion of the works for the transformation of the Pyramid into one of the largest centers of information technology.
During the inspection conducted today by Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Chairman of the Board of the Albanian-American Development Foundation, Michael Granoff, the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj announced that the Bell will be restored after the restoration and transformation project of the Pyramid.
The Peace Bell was created by melting cartridges used during the 1997 riots after the collapse of pyramid schemes, in which hundreds of people lost their lives. The children of the Catholic community of Zadrima collected the bullets and the monument was erected on the initiative of former President Rexhep Mejdani and former Minister of Culture Edi Rama.

Once a symbol of the totalitarian regime, today the Pyramid of Tirana is taking the form of an extraordinary center, which will serve as the largest point of creative technology in the Balkans.

We have 16 individual cubes, which look like they were “thrown” by a child’s hand, resembling the famous LEGO game. The idea is that these spaces will be for different uses, depending on the visitors of the Pyramid; there will be IT and Start-up companies. In terms of space, we have planted almost 200 trees, which are grown, just like in “Skëndërbej” Square. The crossing from the Prime Ministry to the Boulevard will be in the form of a forest. We have finished almost 90% of the work “explained Veliaj.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Rama praised the work done so far and was interested in specific elements of the project. The new center, a project of the famous Dutch studio MVRDV, will welcome thousands of young people to learn the language of coding, robotics, design and programming.
