The Czech leader today compared intelligence reports on the Russian invasion of Ukraine with those of “weapons of mass destruction before the Iraq war.”
Pro-Russian Czech President Milos Zeman today condemned the American intelligence community for predictions that the Russian invasion of Ukraine is not materializing, adding that it adds to their erroneous predictions at other important events.
In one interview with the daily MF DNES he said:
“Initially it was in Iraq, where no weapons of mass destruction were found. The second was in Afghanistan, when they claimed that the Taliban would never take control of Kabul. This is the third time now, “the president added.
Washington has been warning for months that Russia is preparing a military strike on Ukraine, saying for weeks that the attack could happen “at any moment.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has also expressed skepticism about the Russian threat, declared yesterday a “celebration of Ukrainian national unity.”
The Czech president said he was initially informed of a possible Russian attack based on US intelligence, which turned out to be wrong.
“I am not asking the CIA for its sources of information, but based on the three examples I mentioned I have begun to doubt the quality of the sources,” he said.
He added that he did not believe there would be a Russia-Ukraine war, arguing that Moscow would have much to lose and little to gain if it happened.
