The Czech Republic reported on Wednesday a record number of coronavirus cases: over 66,000.
According to the Ministry of Health in this country, 57,195 are new cases of infected, while 9,775 are re-infected.
The number of hospital admissions is currently 2,653 – lower than in previous pandemic waves.
The Czech Republic, a country of 10.7 million people, has registered over 37,000 victims of the coronavirus – 38 of them were reported on Wednesday.
In terms of coronavirus vaccination, this country still lags behind the western countries of the European Union. Currently, 63.2 percent of the population is considered fully vaccinated. About a third of citizens have also received the booster dose.
According to the Czech Bureau of Statistics, published on Tuesday, in 2021 more people have died in this country than in any other year since the end of World War II.
Last year, more than 139,600 deaths were registered, 8 percent more than in 2020, when the coronavirus pandemic started.
The age group of the victims was from 55 to 74 years old, according to the Czech Statistics Office.
