The UN said the death toll in Ukraine has risen to more than 3,000 since the start of the war. Since the start of the Russian occupation on February 24, the OHCHR has recorded 3,153 civilian deaths in Ukraine, but the real number is thought to be higher.
The discrepancy in the figures comes from the difficulty in obtaining information in certain areas of Ukraine, while the city of Mariupol appears problematic.
Mariupol has suffered constant bombing since the beginning of the war, with the city council reporting that 80% or 90% of the buildings were damaged or destroyed.
Satellite images have identified mass graves near Mariupol. Local authorities have estimated that a large number of civilians have been killed by Russian bombardment of the city.
The UN believes that most civilians across the country have been killed by explosive weapons which have a wide range of influence (rocket attacks and shelling), but not many details have been given about the causes.
