European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen has stated that they have reached an agreement with Pfizer to receive 180 million doses to fight the new variants of COVID-19.
She added that EU leaders have activated a clause in the agreements signed with vaccine manufacturers that allows them to request the development of an adapted vaccine within a period of 100 days.
She added that Europe could produce 300 million doses every month, reports atsh.
“With more than 1 billion doses shipped to several countries around the world, the EU is the largest importer of vaccines,” she said, urging EU countries to step up their vaccination campaign following the introduction of the Omicron variant.
