Incident at QSUT, ISHMT: The elevator was examined, but not registered

Regarding the event that took place at QSUT, where as a result of a problem in the operation of the elevator two people were injured, the State Inspectorate of Market Surveillance, in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies, is maximally committed to clarify the event, determine the causes and taking measures in order not to repeat such events, which endanger the safety of citizens.
We would like to inform in advance that, based on the inspection conducted by SIT, it turns out that the initial examination of the elevator was performed by an approved body, but the registration of elevators was not performed pursuant to Law 10489/2011 “On trade and market surveillance of non-food products’, as amended.
According to the law, the Person in charge of the product / installation has the duty to contract an Approved Body, which performs the initial inspection of the elevator and the periodic one, to assess whether the elevator complies with the technical rules to ensure the safety of users. After performing the initial examination, the responsible person has the obligation to register the elevator with the SIT.
Elevator safety controls have been one of the priorities of the activity of the Market Surveillance Inspectorate, where only for 2021 336 inspections have been performed, while the number of elevators registered with the SIT is 1429.
Also, SIT has continuously informed all stakeholders on the legal obligations that must be met regarding the safety of elevators.
SIHT calls on all responsible persons to carry out the procedure of registration of elevators at this institution, new elevators that are installed for the first time, but also elevators that are in use, in order to guarantee that elevators in use for third parties or the general public to comply with the safety requirements of the product / installation put into service throughout its period of use.
