The President of Northern Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, has mandated the chairman of the Social Democratic League (SDSM), Dimitar Kovacevski, for the post of Prime Minister.
Kovacevski received the decree in the presidential cabinet on Wednesday, after SDSM had previously announced in a letter that it had secured a majority in the Assembly for the new government to vote.
“From today (Wednesday) I start to form a new team with people who must respond to the serious challenges that await us from the beginning of the new year. The new government will have a clear goal – to provide security, a better life and a bright future for our citizens. My personal commitment is to restore citizens’ trust in the country’s politics and institutions. “This requires efficient, honest and responsible governance,” Kovacevski said.
The President of SDSM will have 20 days to submit the new composition of the Government of Northern Macedonia to the Assembly for approval.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Talat Xhaferi, said that he expects the new Government to start working by January 18 at the latest, after having previously voted in the Assembly with 61 votes of the deputies.
The new government will consist of SDSM, the Democratic Union for Integration, Alternatives and the Albanian Democratic Party.
After the mandate of Dimitar Kovacevski, the leader of the Macedonian opposition, Hristijan Mickoski, reacted, saying that he expects from the new prime minister “the continuation of the policies of Zaevism (vj Zoran Zaevit), the failures and the lack of strategy for the future of the country”.
“I have heard his statements to the media and I do not expect anything from him. “I can not comment on a word or sentence as there is nothing to offer the continuation of Zaev’s policies – the enslaved state and the hybrid regime will continue,” Mickoski said.
He said that the president, Stevo Pendarovski, was wrong with the decision to give the mandate to Kovacevski, because according to him, the new leader of SDSM has no legitimacy to lead the new government.
“VMRO-DPMNE is a political party with the largest parliamentary group in the Assembly. VMRO-DPMNE is the party with the most mayors. Pendarovski continues to be part of the hybrid regime and the captured state. “He decided to give the mandate to a person who did not participate in the elections, nor did he ask for trust and who does not have popular legitimacy”, declared the chairman of VMRO DPMNE, Hristijan Mickoski.
Dimitar Kovacevski succeeds Zoran Zaev as Prime Minister, who resigned from the post of Prime Minister and Chairman of SDSM due to the loss in the local elections, which were held on October 31./REL
