The leadership of the Democratic Party of Socialists of the President of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic, has announced that it will support any initiative that will lead to the departure of the current state government.
“DPS welcomes the readiness of a part of the parliamentary majority to propose solutions with representatives of some minority parties, which would lead to the unblocking of institutions and the acceleration of the negotiation process with the European Union.“, Said the party of the President of Montenegro.
This is how the DPS responded to the initiative to form a minority government, as a model for overcoming the political crisis in Montenegro. This proposal was presented by the ruling Civic Movement Bridge, and the Citizens’ League CIVIS.
These two subjects, in the parliamentary elections of 2020 had competed within the list “Black on white”. In those elections, the DPS was ousted after three decades.
During the presentation of the proposal for the minority government, the Civic Movement Bridge and the Citizens’ League CIVIS said on January 17 that in such a government there would be no place for the largest opposition party, the Democratic Party of Socialists and the strongest coalition party. current, Democratic Front, pro-Serbian party.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro and the leader of the Bridge Movement, Dritan Abazovic, has said that this model is a possible solution, but which they will not impose on anyone.
“It is time to unblock the road to the European Union. “If this situation cannot be resolved, elections remain a clear solution.”, Abazovic said on January 17th.
27 votes are needed to initiate the dismissal of the government in the Assembly, while a majority of 41 deputies is needed to remove her.
With the support of the DPS, which has 30 deputies in the Montenegrin Parliament, the Bridge Movement secures a sufficient number of votes for a no-confidence motion against the Government of Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapic.
Montenegrin Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapic vehemently opposed the announcement of the formation of a minority government, calling the initiative a “hoax”.
Krivokapic’s government, which has more than enough votes in parliament, has lost the support of the ruling majority, mainly the pro-Serb Democratic Front party.
However, the Democratic Front has never launched a formal initiative to dismiss the Government, which has not had the support of this party since the middle of last year.
Among other things, the DF did not agree with the adoption of the Resolution on Srebrenica in the Parliament of Montenegro, as well as with the dismissal of Minister Vladimir Lleposavic due to the denial of the genocide in Srebrenica.
Zdravko Krivokapic’s government was elected on December 4, 2020 with the votes of the Democratic Front, Democrats and the Civic Movement Bridge as the government of experts, and the only politician in it is the leader of the Bridge Movement, Dritan Abazovic, who holds the post of Deputy Prime Minister.
Since the formation of this government, it has been the target of criticism and obstacles coming from the structures of the ruling majority, primarily from the Democratic Front, which has constantly asked, but never formalized the request for the election of a new government. .
The Democratic Front has stated about the possibility of forming a minority government, saying that “they are not for the overthrow of the current government, but for the election of a new one”. According to this party, they want an executive that would reflect the electoral will of the citizens, who expressed it in the August 2020 elections.
While the community parties support the proposal of the Bridge Movement, describing it as a real and optimal opportunity to get out of the current political crisis, it was said in a joint statement issued by the leaders of the Bosniak Party, the Albanian List and the Albanian Coalition.
