People who refuse to be vaccinated against coronavirus in Austria could face fines ranging from 600 to 3,600 euros ($ 675 to $ 4,070), according to a bill introduced Thursday.
According to this plan, the measures will enter into force in February. However, fined persons can evade payment by being vaccinated, Constitutional Minister Caroline Edtstadler said today, adding that this would be considered an ‘operational regret’.
“If proof of vaccination is presented, then the procedures will be set aside,” said Health Minister Wolfgang Mueckstein. There will also be an exception for ages 14 and up, pregnant women, people who have had the disease less than 180 days ago.
“More than a million people are not vaccinated in Austria, and that number remains quite high,” said Edtstadler. “Four of the five parties represented in the Austrian legislature support the vaccination request,” said Edtstadler.
