A Los Angeles sheriff’s helicopter with six people on board crashed in the San Gabriel Mountains.
The local fire department said one person suffered serious injuries while the others thankfully had only superficial injuries.
Sheriff Alex Villanueva told the LA Times that all the effectives “are in a stable condition, but thanks to the living God”.
The collision happened yesterday afternoon when the Air Rescue 5 helicopter was going to help at the scene of a car accident on the ‘Highway 39.’
Fortunately, the helicopter had crashed just a few tens of meters away from a steep cliff on the mountain, which Villanueva said was “nothing short of a miracle.”
The helicopter had five officers and a doctor on board at the time of the crash.
The helicopter is still crashed near the Azusa Canyon near the San Gabriel Dam.
Villanueva added that over the years the helicopter had saved “thousands of lives” with 500 to 700 flights a year between narrow canyons and the country’s difficult topography. He was one of three such vehicles owned by the sheriff’s department.
