Protesters in Myanmar are facing fatal force from military-commanded authorities since the February 1 coup.
At least 38 people were killed on Wednesday (March 3rd) when security forces opened fire on unarmed demonstrators in several cities across the country.
The United Nations says the death toll has risen to 50, with activists calling for even greater numbers.
Hundreds of people have been arrested and their relatives have not been informed of where they are being held, says UN envoy Christine Schraner Burgener.
Protesters demand the release of elected officials, despite military claims that the election process has been rigged.
The coup erupted after weeks of clashes between the civilian government and the military, which has traditionally been a separate force in the country, known as the Tatmadaw.
The country’s election commission denies there was large-scale manipulation in the November election, when Suu Kyi’s party won.
Several military regimes have previously ruled Myanmar from 1962 to 2011.
