DW: Less gas for Europe from Ukraine

Due to the war, Ukraine will stop the transit of Russian gas to Europe in the Luhansk region in the east of the country this Wednesday. This means that Europe will lack 32.6 million cubic meters of gas per day, which is one third of the daily amount transported from Ukraine to Europe, said the relevant gas transportation entity, OGTSU in Ukraine. Due to the Russian occupation it became impossible to control the Sochranivka points as well as the gas station in Novopskov.

Sochranivka is part of the Sojus pipeline, which runs from the Russian region of Orenburg to Ushhorod in Ukraine. The Ukrainian side had announced that the Russians had recently damaged the work of these units. Orders for the transit of Russian gas through Sochranivka have dropped to zero in the meantime, OGTSU announced. Only gas orders from Gazprom will be accepted for the passage of gas through the Sojus pipeline to the west.

The energy giant Gazprom, which almost daily transported nearly 100 million cubic meters of gas through Ukraine to Europe, said that “there is no confirmation of a situation under extraordinary factors.” The Ukrainians had worked “undisturbed” in recent weeks in Sochranivska. It is not technically possible for the blocked supplies to pass through the Sudsha checkpoint located on Russian territory near Ukraine, spokesman Sergei Kuprijanov told the Interfax news agency.
