The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced that thanks to the extensive easing of restrictions on the new coronavirus (COVID-19), international ticket sales have increased significantly.
In a statement, IATA said that “in the period around February 8 (7-day average) the number of tickets sold remained at 49 percent from the same period of 2019”.
“The 11 percentage point improvement between January and February is the fastest such increase for any 2-week period since the onset of the crisis,” IATA said.
The Air Transport Association said 28 markets are open to vaccinated passengers without quarantine requirements, while 18 of them do not require pre-departure testing.
“37 markets are open to travelers vaccinated under different conditions,” IATA added.
IATA CEO Willie Walsh said the increase showed passengers’ confidence in buying tickets.
“Now we need to further accelerate the lifting of travel restrictions,” he said.
