Egyptian athlete Ali Farag used his victory speech yesterday to condemn the double standards of the Western media regarding conflicts “that may or may not be mentioned” in the world of sports, comparing incitement and widespread involvement in the current conflict in Ukraine. with the obscurity that characterizes the oldest Middle East conflict, Israel-Palestine.
The Egyptian athlete condemned what he called the hypocrisy of the rules of sharing sports with politics, amid the urge to speak in favor of Ukraine during its occupation by Russia.
Farag, who won the Optasia Squash squash championship at Wimbledon London, said:
“We were never allowed to talk about sports politics, but now it is suddenly allowed,” said Farag, urging people to shed light on where oppression and murder are all over the world, including in Palestine.
“We all see what is happening in the world right now, and no one is happy about that. “But no one should ever accept the murder and oppression that is happening everywhere in the world,” Farag said.

“I want to say that the Palestinians have been going through this for 74 years and I believe that since this does not fit the media narrative, we could not mention it. “But now that we can talk about Ukraine, I believe we can talk about the Palestinians, so remember that.”
A video of his speech has gone viral on social media and received widespread support.
“Now keeping politics out of sports can never be used, I know, there is no excuse,” said one user.
