French President Emmanuel Macron has emerged victorious in the second round of elections in France, defeating his rival, Marine Le Pen, according to an estimate by the Ipsos polling institute.
According to France 24, Emmanuel Macron was elected for a second term as French president on Sunday evening with 58.2% of the vote. While his far-right challenger Marine Le Pen won 41.8% of the vote in the election that saw the highest turnout of abstention in the country in 50 years.
Otherwise even opinion polls in recent days have suggested that Emmanuel Macron could become the first French president in 20 years to win a second term.
