The government today has tried to calm the public, but has also warned that we must prepare for any scenario.
“We are preparing for some scenarios, and for this reason, we have decided to set up a Special Committee. The most difficult scenario is that we have to prepare psychologically for situations of dramatic cuts of all energy or oil supplies, we have to prepare for that as well. Let’s be clear that this too can come, even though this is the most dramatic scenario, because replacing the resources that have been provided by Russia for so many years is extremely complicated. “But at the same time, the obligation to protect people’s lives, the obligation to stand on the front in support of Ukraine and the obligation to do our best so that the war does not spread militarily is inevitable,” Rama said.
The Prime Minister linked the increase of the oil price in Albania with the dynamics of the price change in the international markets, but also the political ones, with the name Russia.
““Not far from yesterday, one of the senior representatives of the Russian government has threatened a price of $ 300 per barrel, which is something that has not happened in the history of the oil trade, nor has it happened in the biggest crises.” said Rama.
To alleviate the rise in fuel prices, the prime minister explained why the government has its hands tied and is unable to intervene.
“The price of oil in Albania, which as in any other country is directly influenced by the market and not by government decisions, is partial because it is not taken into account that in the price structure we have contributions that in other countries are paid separately. So the sum of the costs of those who consume oil is the same, just take and calculate the taxes paid in other countries, outside the price of oil, turnover tax or carbon tax and it turns out the same thing, with a difference in this case, in favor of those who consume less, who pay less. Meanwhile, in other countries it is paid fixed, regardless of how much you consume oil, you pay taxes, carbon and turnover tax. This is the only change and there is no other change “, added Rama.
As for electricity, a commodity purchased by the government at multiplied market prices for which it has so far been subsidized in the amount of 100 million dollars, the Minister of Energy Belinda Ballku, guaranteed that there will be no price increase as has happened in many countries. neighbors to us and to Europe.
“In terms of restrictions, there will be no restrictions as long as we guarantee energy. When the market goes to extremes, as I explained to you, we go out to buy on import and we find it very difficult to meet the quantity required to meet market demand in addition to the domestic generation we have. “There will be no restrictions until the day when we will be able to provide energy in the market even with this high price”, said Balluku.
However, the government will start not wasting energy and saving with state institutions. The same is required of the citizens.
“We should consume less and not take the car to buy cigarettes or bread on the street corner, but walk. This is what happens when prices rise, since this is a product that is traded in the market by private individuals and the state has nothing to do because it is removing the tax from oil, will you pay it to DPSHTRR, right, because it is a carbon tax? “What has oil inside has two taxes, the carbon tax and the turnover tax, which will be paid because they are taxes that are applied by the whole of Europe”, said Balluku.
