Kosovo government spokesman, Përparim Kryeziu, says that they have taken all measures for the energy crisis, but according to him when the crisis is global and Kosovo for 20 years has not managed to improve its production capacity, the consequences are inevitable.
Kryeziu says that they are constantly working to minimize the consequences. In order to amortize the crisis, Kryeziu says that the Government has allocated 20 million euros to KEK to subsidize electricity consumption in order to avoid price increases and ensure a stable supply.
In addition, he says that they have returned the dividend of 20 million euros to KOSTT. Kryeziu: The government has taken measures for the energy crisis, but the consequences are inevitable.
“The government so far, in addition to establishing a task force two months ago that has made the necessary preparations to have the right decisions to deal with this situation, in recent weeks we have approved the decision in the government to subsidize electricity consumption, in order to avoid the increase of the price of electricity for the citizens and on the other hand to ensure a stable supply. Measures have been taken in order to amortize the crisis, but when the crisis is global and Kosovo for 20 years has not managed to improve its capacity necessarily, despite our efforts to make it as small and minimal as possible, the consequences are almost inevitable“, Says Kryeziu for KosovaPress.
Government spokesman says Kosovo has limited energy capacity and the rest of consumption must be imported. Because of the global energy crisis, he says the core problem is the rising cost and lack of energy that can be purchased.
“This energy crisis is not only happening in Kosovo, but it is a global energy crisis, since Kosovo can not be an exception. It should also be borne in mind that unfortunately for us, Kosovo has limited electricity capacities, they did it with an outdated technology that is in use. Always during the winter period, these capacities have not managed to respond to the demand or need of citizens for electricity. Usually the potential of producing electricity with our capacities does not exceed 900 megawatts. So the rest must be imported as has usually happened in previous years. The difference is that this time it is happening at a time when there is an energy crisis around the world, consequently the price is more expensive to import, but at the same time the main problem is the lack of electricity which can be purchased by the government of Kosovo. This is the core problem due to the global energy crisis“, He says.
Due to the reduction of electricity, today will be protested in front of the building of KEDS and the Government of Kosovo.
