On Thursday morning, Isa Et’hemi headed to KESCO to pay the 70 euro electricity bill. A rough amount says he pays it every month.
Isa Et’hemi: I pay regularly every month, this month I received 72 euros. The other months I got the same, from 52 euros to 70.
Et’hemi says it consumes over 1000 kWh of electricity per month. Under the new tariffs he will be forced to pay around 120 euros, for the same consumption, which is difficult for him to afford.
Isa Et’hemi: I will have to pay one hundred percent more, and God knows where he will end up with a pension.
The increase in tariffs that will start to apply soon affects all consumers who exceed the block of 600 kWh set by the Energy Regulatory Office.
The household customer who has spent 611 kWh of electricity per month has paid the bill about 43 euros. However, from February he will be forced to pay 49 euros due to tariff increases. If the Government allocates the promised funds as a subsidy then the total bill goes down to 44 euros.
With this subsidy, the tariff of 7 cents will remain unaffected for consumers who spend less than 600 kWh of electricity per month as well as businesses.
