The price of energy in the UK has broken every record so far.
The local energy regulator announced that due to the rising costs of natural gas, the price of energy in Britain is rising by 54%, which is expected to weigh significantly on the pockets of millions of consumers, who are already facing rising prices for other goods and services.
The Office of Gas and Electricity Markets, known as “Ofgem”, clarified that the strong price overrun will occur in most of the country starting in April.
It is estimated that at least 22 million families will be affected by this move. British Treasury Secretary Rishi Sunak said the government is preparing a package of measures to help people most affected by the situation, including those on lower incomes, cope with the huge increase in gas bills.
“If the executive does not intervene, millions of families will find themselves in great difficulty“, He said in parliament.
The announcement of the rise in energy prices comes at a time when living costs in the UK are steadily rising and a new tax increase is forecast in April.
