In an activity held at the Palace of Congresses, the Minister of Environment, Mirela Kumbaro said that we are all criminals for the way we have treated the environment.
“We are used to identifying crime with an perpetrator, with a criminal, with a criminal. It is always the other, because we think we ourselves are never wrong. We walk down the street every day and throw bottles out of the window, we are the ones who throw the garbage in the yard behind the house, or on the stairs of the palace or fly it from the balcony. We are the ones who go to the beaches and leave behind like poison bombs cans, bottles, bags, solid waste that we stick like knives in the heart of nature without the slightest conscious murder.
We are the ones who work and open construction sites, extract construction materials from the river or the mountain and tear the stomach of nature beyond the capacities and environmental permits. We also oppose the police! “Our waste is, we produce it and we have to think about where we should take it”, said Kumbaro.
Kumbaro says the law to punish environmental crimes exists, but has not been done enough.
“From the laws related to the environment, which provide for all punitive measures, to the deprivation of liberty for environmental crimes, the bodies that must investigate and prohibit them. “We have to admit that we have implemented this whole legal package to the right extent because we have to punish ourselves, each of us is a criminal in the way we behave with the environment”, said Kumbaro.
