Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday that Turkey’s EU membership remains a priority for Ankara.

The head of state noted that Turkey continues to try and hopes that the bloc will end “strategic blindness” and be more encouraging in developing relations with Ankara.
Turkey’s full membership talks began on October 3, 2005, but progress according to Brussels was slow, and of the 35 chapters needed to complete the accession process, only 16 were open and another closed by May. 2016.
