The European Union announced on Wednesday that it would resume legal action against Britain over a bill introduced by London that would bypass parts of the treaty on the Brexit agreement.
The proposed UK bill aims to lift customs controls on some goods entering Northern Ireland from the rest of Britain. This will bypass parts of the trade treaty that Prime Minister Boris Johnson signed with the EU less than two years ago.
The EU believes that the UK’s unilateral decision is in violation of international law. The so-called Northern Ireland Protocol is part of the Brexit agreement that keeps Northern Ireland in the EU common market for goods.
Serious breach of international law: MEPs call on UK not to adopt new bill

The 27-nation bloc will resume infringement proceedings launched against the UK government last year after Britain unilaterally extended a non-payment period applicable to trade on the island of Ireland.
The legal action was suspended in September 2021 after both sides tried to find a common solution. Furthermore, the EU will launch further action against Britain for a failure to carry out the necessary checks under EU rules and to provide trade statistics as required by the protocol.
