Euroactiv -Albania energy center in the region

According to the article in question, the American company Excelerate Energy Inc. plans Albania as a country that can supply gas and energy products to the rest of the region in the midst of the global energy crisis.

The company will provide floating power plants in Albania, allowing it to generate electricity, boost production and increase exports, while also working with Exxon Mobil Corp to build a project to convert liquefied natural gas to electricity in Vlora.

Asked by Bloomberg about floating power plants, the head of the company Excelerate Steven Kobos states (I took pictures with his words) – “It is a good energy project for Albania. “Obviously we hope this will lead to the opportunity to supply and sell gas to Europe.”

Euroactiv states that Albania is currently dependent on hydroelectric energy and imports fossil fuels. However, without storage capacity it is sold to other countries during the main months of production – spring and early summer. This means that Albania has to buy energy from fossil fuels in winter to meet demand.

The government – the article says – continues to issue permits for hydropower plants, despite repeated warnings that climate change, rising temperatures and mismanagement in recent decades are causing lakes used for hydropower to operate at limited capacity and often reducing the level of water, threatens the already precarious energy situation.

Therefore, at the moment that the country plans to build more hydropower plants in the north and gas projects in the south, the interconnections in the region can be used as the project between Albania and Northern Macedonia with a capacity of 400 kV that is already under construction, reconstruction of connections between Albania and Montenegro and a special plan for a new power transmission line with Kosovo, which, together with floating power plants and liquefied gas stations of American companies, will give the country a new energy strategy.
