Three members of a family, a mother and two children, were found lying dead on the sidewalk as they tried to leave Kiev to evacuate to Irpin.
It was a New York Times photographer who showed the situation, as Ukrainian soldiers, having seen no signs of life in the other three members, try to save the life of the wounded father of this family.
As the BBC writes, the children were a teenage boy and a girl who appeared to be around eight years old. The family had with them a suitcase and some backpacks and their little dog.
It is learned that they were hit by a mortar attack.
Ukraine has accused Russian forces of deliberately targeting evacuation routes from Irpin after a railway was hit and damaged on Saturday.
Like Irpin, the small towns of Hostomel and Bucha northwest of Kiev have seen fierce fighting in recent days.
