A massive landslide practically “buried” several houses in the central regions of Colombia, taking the lives of 14 people. Another 35 were injured, while a resident has not yet been found, local officials said.
The landslide occurred in the early hours of the morning in the Dosquebredas region. It followed torrential rains in the surrounding province where coffee is grown, Risalda.
Rescue teams have been put to war with time to find survivors amidst rivers of mud. Residents have not yet recovered from the shock.
“We heard a loud noise, we were terrified. We went out and saw that part of the mountain was on the tops of houses. I ran there, what can I tell you, a tragedy, people trapped under and mud”.
Some of the area residents who survived the disaster went to the aid of emergency crews.
They say the mud covered at least 5 houses.
Authorities evacuated nearby homes for fear of further landslides after the Otun River overflowed its banks.
