For Edi Rama, collecting the opinion of the socialist parliamentary group through three proposals with closed envelopes was a novelty.
More than an innovation it seemed like a political exercise to test the deputies’ perception of the process of electing the new head of state.
It has been 22 days since the envelopes with proposals were administered but the preferences of the socialist deputies were never made public.
This mysteriously covered this process, which later faded, by Edi Rama when he said that the candidate for president will not be from the ranks of the SP parliamentary group.
Top Channel journalist, Muhamed Veliu from two sources inside the SP, aware of the summary document of the proposals, learns that the socialist deputies have produced a surprise which has surprised even the chairman of their party.
Some deputies have proposed Edi Rama to be the successor of his former enemy friend, Ilir Meta.
Frequent statements that the time has come for a woman president are also reflected in the proposals of the Socialists.
From this proposing process, the most voted figure is Mimi Kodheli, currently chairwoman of the foreign policy commission, a former former collaborator of Rama, when he headed the Municipality of Tirana and then in the first term of the Rama government Minister of Defense.
Ms. Kodheli was placed 21st in the lists of candidates of Tirana in the 2021 elections without winning but the resignation of Najada Çomo returned her to parliament.
As the second most voted preference, the socialist deputies wanted to see in the presidency the speaker of the assembly Lindita Nikolla, former Minister of Education who as the political leader of the party calmed the irritations and divisions of the socialists of Lezha.
Two of the 74 socialist deputies have nominated the head of the socialist parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, for president.
But the two most promoted by Rama after the April 25 elections, Arben Ahmetaj, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Reconstruction, together with the new Secretary General of the Socialist Party, Damian Gjiknunuri, have received zero proposals from their fellow MPs.
Socialist MPs have also proposed names outside their political home.
One of them is the former Democratic Minister of European Integration, Majlinda Bregu, who is currently the Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council.
