A massive fire that engulfed 80 homes in the Philippine capital, Manila, left eight dead, six of them children. According to officials the fire started on the second floor of a house, while the causes are still unknown.
The BBC reports that senior firefighter Greg Bichayda told the AFP news agency that it took almost two hours to put out the blaze.
“The fire spread quickly. The victims were unable to leave their homes. Houses are made of lightweight materials. When the fire broke out, people were shocked. “Our station was close, but they could not call us right away.”said Bichayda.
The number of fires in this region has been high, due to overcrowding in many communities.
