A farmer from Brittany in northwestern France has improvised water drops on the necks and bodies of animals, which he has diverted from field irrigators to a pig farm.
“Usually they are more active, but now they are very calm from the heat. “When I enter here, they all come towards me,” says the farmer.
“People sweat, they secrete, but pigs do not, when it is hot they return to a pressure cooker, their breathing becomes difficult and there is a risk of cardiac arrest.
“The goal is to keep the temperature as low as possible in the morning so that the building gets the heat in the afternoon.”
“We have placed a system of drops on the animals, the drops fall on their necks and refresh them. “Today and tomorrow we have sprinklers on the roof of the stable, to refresh it”, she adds.
