The largest organization in the country for the protection of children’s rights has made public its legal proposals for the protection of children from pedophiles and sexual predators.
She demands the change of the sexual age at which the beginning of sexual intercourse is allowed, to 16 years old.
This organization addressed a hearing to the Parliamentary Committee on Labor, Social Affairs and Health.
“The Criminal Code of the Republic of Albania in its article 100 defines the age of 14 as the minimum age at which a teenager can have sexual intercourse. A law that protects in cases of pedophilia adults who have sex with minors“, Said Altin Hazizaj, Center for the Rights of the Child in Albania.
But in Albania, this seems to be turning into a situation which favors sexual predators and pedophiles, who can rely on this law to force or demand sexual intercourse with children as young as 14, without being penalized at all by the law.
Except for countries of origin in Europe, almost all other countries have already raised the minimum age for having sex to 15 and 16 years.
Based on this experience, the Center for the Rights of the Child in Albania has started working and has prepared legal proposals that will be addressed to the Assembly to amend the existing Criminal Code.
In our country, cases of sexual abuse with minors aged 14 and over have increased and have become one of the main problems for the Albanian public.
Sexual predators, on the other hand, are increasingly looking for victims aged 14 and over to bypass problems with the law and not qualify as such at all.
