In any season, the permanent complaint of farmers remains the market.
The price of tomatoes and cucumbers that go for export within 24 hours fell by almost 50%
“Coming to the market, the goods were blocked. I sold it at the beginning for 600 lekë, then it went for 1300, when yesterday it went for 700 lekë ”says the farmer Bukuroshe Bega.
Farmers say it is the collection points that cheaply assess the farmer’s sweat.
“From the shortage of production, for a couple of days 1,300 lekë and we are learning that yesterday and today it is 700. Will it remain 700 lekë, or will it continue to go lower”, says Gestian Ekali.
Who changes the price?
“With us the most problem are the points. As long as there is no control by the state they will make fun of us. These meet head-to-head and set the price. Let the farmer bring it and we will sell it as much as we want. We are not taking from the state either, but, points are also being stolen from us”.
Geni Çela, from Samatica in Berat, says that the Albanian farmer is obliged to obey the rules set by the wholesalers. Whenever the farmer submits his agricultural produce to the collection points, the only invoice given to the farmer is that of hand.
