According to data from the Institute of Statistics INSTAT, the number of students from first to ninth grade has decreased by 3% compared to last year. There are several factors that have contributed to the reduction in number.
“The decline in the number of students has affected not only the 4-year-old, but also high schools. One of the reasons is constant emigration. Now it is not only individuals who emigrate, but those professionals who secure an employment contract, emigrate with their families. This is due to the simplified procedures set by the EU countries for the withdrawal of the labor force. But this leads to the interruption of the children’s school, to continue in a foreign country, where the parents work. “Other reasons are related to the constant emigration of young people, the decline in the number of births, the decline in the number of marriages, the postponement of the age when husband and wife become parents for the first time.”– said sociologist Entela Binjaku.
Another phenomenon that we see being treated less is related to the fact that many families have school away, or miss it at all. The long distance has caused the children to arrive late in the first hours, then the number of absences is filled. Many of them are punished for this, or demotivated to attend classes. It happened that the same community that started the cycle with 34 students ended it with half of this figure, ie 16-17 students.
