Chilean police used water cannons last night in the Chilean capital, Santiago, against demonstrators honoring slain journalist Francisca Sandoval.
Sandoval was shot dead while taking part in International Workers’ Day demonstrations on May 1.
Protesters have been standing for days at her memorial in the main square, Piazza Italia, setting up camps and barricades.
About 200 people responded last night to the call to honor the memory of 30-year-old Sandoval, who was shot in the head while reporting from the union march.
Earlier Sandoval’s family had distributed messages to avoid violence and did not indicate the location of the funeral to avoid gatherings.
They said they do this to protect the little girl the journalist left orphaned.
The crime was condemned by Chilean authorities, including President Gabriel Boric, and international organizations.
