California has been engulfed by massive wildfires that have spread across thousands of acres of land and forest, as millions of Americans are experiencing scorching heat with record temperatures.
The heat wave has increased the risk of fires. The giant volcano in Yosemite National Park is being threatened by fast-spreading blazes.
Ten private properties were destroyed and five others were damaged in the epicenter of the fires, in Mariposa.
More than 6,000 people were evacuated by Saturday evening after the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection declared the blaze completely out of control.
More than 500 firefighters are on the ground, but officials say it will take a week to neutralize the outbreaks.
Climate scientist Daniel Swain tweeted that the fire is “extremely aggressive,” while stunned social media users posted images of plumes of smoke rising hundreds of feet into the air.
In recent years, California and other parts of the western United States have been ravaged by large, fast-moving wildfires fueled by drought and high temperatures.
