EU Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi during a press conference on the European Commission’s recommendation for the status of candidate countries of Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova, gave good news this Friday on the European integration of Albania and Northern Macedonia .
He stressed that one should not wait any longer for the internal political reasons of Bulgaria, which has created a long-standing stalemate in this process.
“We hope that Northern Macedonia and Albania will have their first intergovernmental conference as we speak and that we will no longer have to wait for internal political reasons in Bulgaria. Days ago, Varhelyi stressed that the “Open Balkans” is a good opportunity for the region. In his speech at the Ohrid summit, Varhelyi said he sees the initiative as a good opportunity to speed up the road to European Union integration.
During his second visit to Albania after taking office as EU Enlargement Commissioner, he suggested that we Albanians should continue to wait patiently.
