The picturesque village of Vuno on Mount Mjegulloshi with its stone-built buildings overlooking the Ionian coast is almost dead. He finds the doors of the lodges either locked, or the elderly live alone in them.
But for a year, the silence of the village has been broken by two young foreigners. Adriano and Sara have known and fallen in love with each other as tourists in the south of Albania, they have quickly acquired Albanian features.
In addition to love for each other, they love our country as much as they have turned a dilapidated apartment in Vuno into a guest house for foreigners, into a hostel with stunning views.
“I am American, but I live in Vuno, Albania” – said American tourist Sarah Bree Cameron
The desire of the 27-year-old American and the 24-year-old German to leave their native countries and set up a business in the Albanian village has also been liked by the locals, who take care of the young people as if they were their own children who, unlike them, have left Albania.
“I am very happy to be here, because I have both boys in Greece” – said the old woman
However, the vacationers are very surprised when they learn that the hostel where the Albanian flag is flying belongs to two foreigners, and how easily they have made the decision to stay in a house on the sea, in an almost abandoned village.
Strange are you really German ?!

“It’s the best decision I have ever made in my life. The people at Vuno welcomed us very well and helped us to fix the house. We are often asked in amazement: why did you move to this village? Then they look at how hard we work, how we have invited so many tourists from all over the world to show you Vuno, Gjipe, every corner of the south. Do not understand what natural wonders they have? They may think we are a little crazy, but we have traveled a lot and as travelers we know what they like us to want, so we naturally decided to live here. Every Albanian tells me that he has family in New York or New Yersey and that they themselves want to go to America, but I tell you to go and visit for a few years, but return to Albania! ”– said Sarah Bree Cameron
Adriano and Sara also organize daily tours in every corner of the south, but the beautiful thing is that they discover Albania not only for foreigners, but also for Albanians themselves.
Adriano has spent 4 nights and 3 winters in Albania, but in June 2021 after meeting Sarah he was convinced that our country is generous to accept him as a resident and not just as a tourist.
“Albania is my home now and I love it very much.”– said Adrian Michels
With the pros and cons of Albania, young people seem to have sworn eternal love not to each other but to Vuno.
“When I go to Germany, I tell everyone to visit Albania and many are already coming, apparently they have heard my word. In Germany you have money, but nothing else, while here you have everything but not much money. Man chooses what he does not have. Where I was born, you have to work all day and not live, while in your country I have found happiness, sun, sea, good food, wonderful climate, friendly people. Although in Vuno where I live twice a month there is no light and we are lit by candles, sometimes there is no water and we have to fill the spring but in this way I know the value of life. Understands how our ancestors lived. I like life in the village! ”- said Adrian Michels.
