At a time when there is talk of an increase in coronavirus cases, and many countries are preparing for a new wave in September, a large number of European countries are doing the opposite of what might be expected of them in this situation: they are reduced protective measures against disease.
Austria decided to lift the mandatory isolation, France overturned all measures. In Germany, discussions on this topic are continuing.
The French parliament passed a law regulating the end of all measures against the coronavirus from August 1, although there is the possibility of carrying out mandatory tests for Covid 19 in the country.
In Austria, the mandatory isolation of people who test positive for the coronavirus will also be abolished from August 1. When they do not feel sick, infected people will be able to leave their homes, Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) announced at a press conference. sick people just need to wear an FFP2 mask – unless they are outside and can keep a distance of two meters from other people.
Even working when you have a positive test will be possible – but only in professions where wearing a mask is possible. The Austrian minister spoke of a “new phase of the pandemic”, and said that the situation is different from that of 2020, when we faced an unknown virus with an “empty toolbox”.
Meanwhile, not only is there a variant with a less serious history, but we also have countermeasures such as vaccination and medication. Therefore, he emphasized, we are “well prepared for a new phase in the fight against the pandemic”. Rauch added that they were inspired by countries such as Denmark, Norway, Great Britain, Spain and Switzerland, where quarantine rules have been partially lifted for a long time, and where there has been no more filling of hospitals.
