In its report on Kosovo, which it describes as a partially free country, Freedom House has a very serious reference to former President Hashim Thaçi and AAK leader Ramush Haradinaj.
Their names are mentioned in the context of elections being described as figures linked to corruption and organized crime that influence the placement of leaders in key positions. The report speaks thus, among other things, of proper names. Freedom House estimates that corruption and clientelism often put pressure on voters during elections, stressing that powerful businessmen in Kosovo can influence the political choices of their employees.
It is also said that Serbia continues to exert influence on the Serb List, as well as on the political elections of ethnic Serbs in general. In the report, Kosovo is again ranked in the group of hybrid regimes / transitional democracies. On a rating scale from 1 to 7 points, where 1 is the lowest rating of democracy, the conclusion is that the country made a progress of 3.14 points as it had in the previous report, at 3.25.
The increase was recorded in the category of democratic governance in the country, which was 2.50 points in last year’s report, while this year it is 3.00. The ratings for the independence of the judiciary have also increased to 2.75, unlike 2.50, as in the previous report, while all other ratings remain unchanged from a year ago.
