“My name is Muhammad Mansuri. I have been working as a fisherman for 11 months here in Vlora. I get $ 800 a month and for me it’s the same here as in Egypt. I am with 1 fisherman from Egypt here and 1 is the captain, while in a month another one will join us. There are about 20 fishermen from Egypt in the Vlora Triport. Fishermen in Triport face many difficulties so they say locals looking for the job are fewer in number pushing landlords to hire foreigners.
For years fishermen have complained that no investment has been made and the lack of a construction site at this fishing port forces them to take the boats for overhaul at the Pashaliman base, paying more.
Out of about 120 vessels in this sector, the vessels have been halved and for this the fishermen blame the high costs that force them not to go to sea more than 10 times a month.
