The Mexican secret services have been spying on Gabriel García Marquez for decades, as they considered him a propaganda agent of Cuba and the Soviet Union.
This fact is revealed in an article by “El Pais”, which recently had access to the archives of secret agents in Mexico City.
According to the Spanish newspaper, the Nobel Prize-winning writer was pursued by Mexican intelligence from the late 1960s, at the time of most active political militancy. And the CIA was “interested” in his activity, according to reports from Mexican agents.
El País consulted about a hundred Mexican intelligence reports on the writer and his ties to Cuba. As for the relationship with Fidel Castro, with whom he met in Havana immediately after the 1959 revolution, the newspaper notes, among other things, according to a 1982 document, Gabo had such a strong relationship that he decided to sell them. A few days ago, the great writer of magical realism had returned to media attention for revealing the existence of a secret 31-year-old girl, Indira. She is the daughter of a journalist with whom Marquez had collaborated for a long time.
