German regulators have launched proceedings against Russian-funded media, RT for broadcasting in Germany without a license.
RT DE, a German-language channel of RT, began satellite broadcasting in Germany on December 16th, using a dubious Serbian license, said Berlin media regulator MABB. Germany does not grant broadcasting licenses to state-funded foreign media, although RT DE is allowed to have an office in the German capital. RT, formerly known as Russia Today, is a media outlet that has been repeatedly criticized in the West and cited as a source of propaganda by the Kremlin, which has long sought to expand into German-language television channels but has no license. to use terrestrial and satellite signals for transmission in Germany. However, she publishes articles on her website and there are also online broadcasting services.
Sakaq, RT DE’s partner, TV Novosti, received a license in Serbia after failing to obtain one in Luxembourg. “For this program, no broadcasting license has been applied for and no such license has been issued by the MABB“, Said the regulator for Radio Free Europe, adding that the proceedings against RT DE have started and this media has until the end of the year to respond. Such procedures could lead to the closure of this channel or a fine of up to 500,000 euros.
