Authorities in Germany said today they had seized the world’s largest yacht in the port of Hamburg after discovering it belonged to the sister of the Russian oligarch of Uzbek origin, Alisher Usmanov.
Federal police said that after extensive investigations into the concealment of assets they could determine that the owner of the giant vehicle was Gulbakhor Ismailova, Usmanov’s sister.
The Dilbar super flag boat of the Cayman Islands, was registered with a company in Malta – where often the super-rich have hidden their wealth.
The vehicle was launched in 2016 at a cost of $ 648 million and has on board a 25-meter-long pool and two helipads, making it the largest vehicle of its kind in the world.
German police said they had cooperated with authorities in Brussels to make sure the sanctions were applied to the owner.
They announced that the yacht held in the port of Hamburg, could not be loaded, sold or rented.
The United States and the European Union announced last month sanctions against Usmanov, a mining and metal tycoon linked to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Authorities said the Dilbar superyacht was tracked down to Ismailova’s ownership after extensive investigations by the agency’s branches.
Dilbar is registered with Navis Marine Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cyprus-based Almenor Holdings.
Almenor is controlled by the Swiss company, Pomerol Capital SA, which investigations found to be owned by Ismailova.
The development comes after authorities in France recently seized more than 20 billion euros in assets of Russian tycoons, including Roman Abramovich’s villa, Château de la Crow in the south of the country.
